The natural wonder inspired the design of the Philippine Pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai
Bangkota, an ancient Filipino word for “coral reef,” is also the name and inspiration behind the BUDJI+ROYAL-designed Philippine Pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai. The world fair is ongoing until March 2022.
World-class Filipino retail brand Bench created a special Bangkota shirt. The Philippines isn’t just recognized as the world’s center of marine biodiversity, it’s situated in the Coral Triangle, a region teeming with numerous species of fish and corals.
The coral reef is considered one of the world’s largest ecosystems. Seen from space, coral reefs support marine life and protect coastlines from waves and storms.
Aside from being a visual reminder of man’s harmony with nature, the design of the reef and its branching colonies are symbolic of the Filipino diaspora—how Filipinos remain connected even if they are far apart.
The Bench Bangkota tee comes in white, tan and green and is available in Bench stores for P419.75.
