De La Salle Santiago Zobel (DLSZ) Strings, the celebrated musical ensemble, achieved yet another remarkable milestone last September 18, when it was accorded a momentous Senate visit to receive the distinguished 19th Congress Senate Resolution 89.
The resolution commends and congratulates DLSZ Strings for its victories at the 15th Summa Cum Laude (SCL) International Youth Music Festival and the 2023 Bratislava Youth Music Festival Competition in Europe last July 2023. The Senate’s unanimous vote on the resolution was a resounding affirmation of the ensemble’s commitment to musical excellence and its representation of the Philippines on the global stage.
During the Senate ceremony, DLSZ Strings captivated the audience with two performances. It began with the Philippine national anthem, “Lupang Hinirang,” symbolizing deep patriotism. Afterwards, the ensemble serenaded the audience with one of its award-winning competition pieces, “Tatlong Awiting Pilipino,” arranged by Rommel Camba.
The DLSZ Strings was led by Leopoldo Sumera Jr. as the conductor, along with Shelly Isaga (Strings Teacher), Daryl Galicia (Music Unit Head), and Lynette Feliciano (Cultural Affairs Office Head), with selected high school students enrolled in the Special Music program.
The Senate ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Br. Martin Sellner FSC (Lasallian Animator), Rafael Reloza (Senior Vice President), Ruby Ramos (School Principal), and JayJay Jacinto (LFMD Director).
DLSZ Strings expressed its heartfelt gratitude to Senator Risa Hontiveros, the main author of the resolution, for recognizing its talent and inviting the ensemble to the Senate. It also extended warm thanks to the supportive parents of DLSZ Strings, whose unwavering encouragement and support have been instrumental in its musical journey.
This recognition is a testament to the power of music to unite, inspire, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines on the global stage. The ensemble’s dedication and passion for music has brought immense pride to DLSZ and the entire nation.
