Campaign shoot held in Tokyo’s busy Shibuya—the crossroads where styles intersect
The report last week said there was heavy snowfall in Tokyo—a rare sight in Japan’s capital but a perfect scene for a Manga plot. Bench’s sister brand Human recently launched its line of Manga collection inspired by the Japanese art of comics and cartooning.
According to Bench creative consultant Noel Manapat, like Manga stories, the prints are mostly black and white but they developed additional designs with singular pops of color.
The shoot was set in Tokyo’s Shibuya district, famous for its busy crossing where humanity crosses over at most times of the day, the statue of Hachiko the ever loyal Akita dog who waited for his owner in the Shibuya train station even long after his human died. To many Filipinos, Shibuya is shopping.
According to Manapat, Shibuya and its environs are the crossroads where styles intersect daily—the perfect spot for the campaign shoot. Due to travel restrictions, the local Human-Bench team couldn’t fly out so it was an all-Japanese production team that mounted the shoot. “Luckily the production crew was adept at the location and was able to create a video and set of photos that merge the inspiration of the Human collection with the actual, contemporary and living culture of the country,” Manapat said.
Aside from the Manga collection, the Tokyo collection also features the Human Refresh collection that presents the brand’s new graphic symbols and message, “For all kinds of you.” The collection combines the style of streetwear with the comforts of loungewear like hoodies, pullovers, tees, matching shorts and lounge pants that can go from home to street.
